The Second Book of Moses, Called Exodus

Chapter 7

1

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, See,3 I have made1 thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet.

2

Thou shalt speak17 all that I command17 thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak17 unto Pharaoh, that he send14 the children of Israel out of his land.

3

And I will harden55 Pharaoh's heart, and multiply52 my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt.

4

But Pharaoh shall not hearken4 unto you, that I may lay1 my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth52 mine armies, [and] my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments.

5

And the Egyptians shall know1 that I [am] the LORD, when I stretch forth2 mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out52 the children of Israel from among them.

6

And Moses and Aaron did4 as the LORD commanded14 them, so did1 they.

7

And Moses [was] fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake15 unto Pharaoh.

8

And the LORD spake4 unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,2

9

When Pharaoh shall speak17 unto you, saying,2 Shew3 a miracle for you: then thou shalt say1 unto Aaron, Take3 thy rod, and cast54 [it] before Pharaoh, [and] it shall become a serpent.

10

And Moses and Aaron went in4 unto Pharaoh, and they did4 so as the LORD had commanded:14 and Aaron cast down55 his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent.

11

Then Pharaoh also called4 the wise men and the sorcerers:18 now the magicians of Egypt, they also did4 in like manner with their enchantments.

12

For they cast down55 every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron's rod swallowed up4 their rods.

13

And he hardened4 Pharaoh's heart, that he hearkened1 not unto them; as the LORD had said.14

14

And the LORD said4 unto Moses, Pharaoh's heart [is] hardened, he refuseth14 to let the people go.15

15

Get3 thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out6 unto the water; and thou shalt stand8 by the river's brink against he come;2 and the rod which was turned8 to a serpent shalt thou take4 in thine hand.

16

And thou shalt say1 unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent1 me unto thee, saying,2 Let my people go,16 that they may serve4 me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear.1

17

Thus saith1 the LORD, In this thou shalt know4 that I [am] the LORD: behold, I will smite56 with the rod that [is] in mine hand upon the waters which [are] in the river, and they shall be turned8 to blood.

18

And the fish that [is] in the river shall die,4 and the river shall stink;1 and the Egyptians shall lothe8 to drink2 of the water of the river.

19

And the LORD spake4 unto Moses, Say3 unto Aaron, Take3 thy rod, and stretch out3 thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and [that] there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in [vessels of] wood, and in [vessels of] stone.

20

And Moses and Aaron did4 so, as the LORD commanded;14 and he lifted up55 the rod, and smote55 the waters that [were] in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that [were] in the river were turned11 to blood.

21

And the fish that [was] in the river died;1 and the river stank,4 and the Egyptians could1 not drink2 of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt.

22

And the magicians of Egypt did4 so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh's heart was hardened,4 neither did he hearken1 unto them; as the LORD had said.14

23

And Pharaoh turned4 and went4 into his house, neither did he set1 his heart to this also.

24

And all the Egyptians digged4 round about the river for water to drink;2 for they could1 not drink2 of the water of the river.

25

And seven days were fulfilled,11 after that the LORD had smitten53 the river.
