Chapter 9

I saw¹ the Lord standing¹² upon the altar: and he said,⁴ Smite⁵⁴ the lintel of the door, that the posts may shake:⁴ and cut³ them in the head, all of them; and I will slay⁴ the last of them with the sword: he that fleeth⁵ of them shall not flee away,⁴ and he that escapeth of them shall not be delivered.¹¹

Though they dig⁴ into hell, thence shall mine hand take⁴ them; though they climb up⁴ to heaven, thence will I bring them down:⁵⁵

And though they hide¹¹ themselves in the top of Carmel, I will search¹⁷ and take¹ them out thence; and though they be hid¹¹ from my sight in the bottom of the sea, thence will I command¹⁷ the serpent, and he shall bite¹ them:

And though they go⁴ into captivity before their enemies,⁶ thence will I command¹⁷ the sword, and it shall slay¹ them: and I will set¹ mine eyes upon them for evil, and not for good.

And the Lord GOD of hosts [is] he that toucheth⁶ the land, and it shall melt,⁴ and all that dwell⁶ therein shall mourn:¹ and it shall rise up¹ wholly like a flood; and shall be drowned,¹ as [by] the flood of Egypt.

[It is] he that buildeth⁶ his stories in the heaven, and hath founded¹ his troop in the earth; he that calleth⁶ for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out⁴ upon the face of the earth: The LORD [is] his name.

[Are] ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith⁷ the LORD. Have not I brought up⁵² Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir?

Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD [are] upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy⁵² it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly⁵³ destroy⁵⁵ the house of Jacob, saith⁷ the LORD.

For, lo, I will command,¹⁸ and I will sift⁵² the house of Israel among all nations, like as [corn] is sifted¹¹ in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall⁴ upon the earth.

All the sinners of my people shall die⁴ by the sword, which say,⁶ The evil shall not overtake⁵⁵ nor prevent⁵⁵ us.

In that day will I raise up⁵⁵ the tabernacle of David that is fallen,⁶ and close up¹ the breaches thereof; and I will raise up⁵⁵ his ruins, and I will build¹ it as in the days of old:

That they may possess⁴ the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called⁸ by my name, saith⁷ the LORD that doeth⁶ this.

Behold, the days come,⁶ saith⁷ the LORD, that the plowman⁶ shall overtake⁸ the reaper,⁶ and the treader⁶ of grapes him that soweth⁶ seed; and the mountains shall drop⁵² sweet wine, and all the hills shall melt.¹¹³

And I will bring again¹ the captivity of my people of Israel, and they shall build¹ the waste¹² cities, and inhabit¹ [them]; and they shall plant¹ vineyards, and drink¹ the wine thereof; they shall also make¹ gardens, and eat¹ the fruit of them.

And I will plant¹ them upon their land, and they shall no more be pulled up¹¹ out of their land which I have given¹ them, saith¹ the LORD thy God.
