Lamentations 4 | King James Bible |
Chapter 5 | |
| Remember,3 O LORD, what is come upon us: consider,54 and behold3 our reproach. |
| Our inheritance is turned8 to strangers,5 our houses to aliens. |
| We are orphans and fatherless, 1 our mothers [are] as widows. |
| We have drunken1 our water for money; our wood is sold4 4242 unto us. |
| Our necks [are] under persecution:8 we labour,1 [and] have no rest.90 |
| We have given1 the hand [to] the Egyptians, [and to] the Assyrians, to be satisfied2 with bread. |
| Our fathers have sinned,1 [and are] not; and we have borne1 their iniquities. |
| Servants have ruled1 over us: [there is] none that doth deliver6 [us] out of their hand. |
| We gat55 our bread with [the peril of] our lives because of the sword of the wilderness. |
| Our skin was black8 like an oven because of the terrible famine. |
| They ravished14 the women in Zion, [and] the maids in the cities of Judah. |
| Princes are hanged up8 by their hand: the faces of elders were not honoured.8 |
| They took1 the young men to grind, and the children fell1 under the wood. |
| The elders have ceased1 from the gate, the young men from their musick. |
| The joy of our heart is ceased;1 our dance is turned8 into mourning. |
| The crown is fallen1 [from] our head: woe unto us, that we have sinned!1 |
| For this our heart is faint; for these [things] our eyes are dim.1 |
| Because of the mountain of Zion, which is desolate,1 the foxes walk14 upon it. |
| Thou, O LORD, remainest4 for ever; thy throne from generation to generation. |
| Wherefore dost thou forget4 us for ever, [and] forsake4 us so long time? |
| Turn54 thou us unto thee, O LORD, and we shall be turned;4 renew16 our days as of old. |
| But thou hast utterly2 rejected1 us; thou art very wroth1 against us. |
