Chapter 61

The Spirit of the Lord GOD [is] upon me; because the LORD hath anointed¹ me to preach good tidings¹⁵ unto the meek; he hath sent¹ me to bind up² the brokenhearted,^{12 3820} to proclaim² liberty to the captives,⁷ and the opening of the prison to [them that are] bound;⁷

To proclaim² the acceptable year of the LORD, and the day of vengeance of our God; to comfort¹⁵ all that mourn;

To appoint² unto them that mourn in Zion, to give² unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called²⁷ trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.⁹⁹

And they shall build¹ the old wastes, they shall raise up³⁴ the former desolations,⁶ and they shall repair¹⁴ the waste cities, the desolations⁶ of many generations.

And strangers⁵ shall stand¹ and feed¹ your flocks, and the sons of the alien [shall be] your plowmen and your vinedressers.

But ye shall be named¹¹ the Priests of the LORD: [men] shall call¹¹ you the Ministers¹⁸ of our God: ye shall eat⁴ the riches of the Gentiles, and in their glory shall ye boast¹⁰¹ yourselves.

For your shame [ye shall have] double; and [for] confusion they shall rejoice⁴ in their portion: therefore in their land they shall possess⁴ the double: everlasting joy shall be unto them.

For I the LORD love⁶ judgment, I hate⁶ robbery for burnt offering; and I will direct¹ their work in truth, and I will make⁴ an everlasting covenant with them.

And their seed shall be known⁸ among the Gentiles, and their offspring among the people: all that see⁶ them shall acknowledge⁵⁵ them, that they [are] the seed [which] the LORD hath blessed.¹⁴

I will greatly² rejoice⁴ in the LORD, my soul shall be joyful⁴ in my God; for he hath clothed⁵² me with the garments of salvation, he hath covered¹ me with the robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decketh¹⁷ [himself] with ornaments, and as a bride adorneth⁴ [herself] with her jewels.

For as the earth bringeth forth⁵⁵ her bud, and as the garden causeth the things that are sown in it to spring forth;⁵⁵ so the Lord GOD will cause righteousness and praise to spring forth⁵⁵ before all the nations.
