The Book of Job

Chapter 42

1

Then Job answered4 the LORD, and said,4

2

I know1 that thou canst4 do every [thing], and [that] no thought can be withholden11 from thee.

3

Who [is] he that hideth56 counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered52 that I understood4 not; things too wonderful12 for me, which I knew4 not.

4

Hear,3 I beseech thee, and I will speak:17 I will demand4 of thee, and declare54 thou unto me.

5

I have heard1 of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now mine eye seeth1 thee.

6

Wherefore I abhor4 [myself], and repent8 in dust and ashes.

7

And it was [so], that after the LORD had spoken14 these words unto Job, the LORD said4 to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled1 against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken14 of me [the thing that is] right,12 as my servant Job [hath].

8

Therefore take3 unto you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go3 to my servant Job, and offer up52 for yourselves a burnt offering; and my servant Job shall pray101 for you: for him will I accept:4 lest I deal2 with you [after your] folly, in that ye have not spoken14 of me [the thing which is] right,12 like my servant Job.

9

So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite [and] Zophar the Naamathite went,4 and did4 according as the LORD commanded14 them: the LORD also accepted4 6440 Job.

10

And the LORD turned1 the captivity 7622 of Job, when he prayed99 for his friends: also the LORD gave55 Job twice as much as he had before.

11

Then came4 there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance6 before, and did eat4 bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned4 him, and comforted17 him over all the evil that the LORD had brought52 upon him: every man also gave4 him a piece of money, and every one an earring of gold.

12

So the LORD blessed14 the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen 6240 thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

13

He had also seven sons and three daughters.

14

And he called4 the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Kerenhappuch.

15

And in all the land were no women found8 [so] fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave4 them inheritance among their brethren.

16

After this lived4 Job an hundred and forty years, and saw4 his sons, and his sons' sons, [even] four generations.

17

So Job died,4 [being] old and full of days.
