Deuteronomy 5 | King James Bible |
Chapter 6 | |
| Now these [are] the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded14 to teach15 you, that ye might do2 [them] in the land whither ye go6 to possess2 it: |
| That thou mightest fear4 the LORD thy God, to keep2 all his statutes and his commandments, which I command18 thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.55 |
| Hear1 therefore, O Israel, and observe1 to do2 [it]; that it may be well4 with thee, and that ye may increase4 mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised14 thee, in the land that floweth6 with milk and honey. |
| |
| And thou shalt love1 the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. |
| And these words, which I command18 thee this day, shall be in thine heart: |
| And thou shalt teach them diligently14 unto thy children, and shalt talk14 of them when thou sittest2 in thine house, and when thou walkest2 by the way, and when thou liest down,2 and when thou risest up.2 |
| And thou shalt bind1 them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. |
| And thou shalt write1 them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. |
| And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought55 thee into the land which he sware8 unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give2 thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst1 not, |
| And houses full of all good [things], which thou filledst14 not, and wells digged,7 which thou diggedst1 not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst1 not; when thou shalt have eaten1 and be full;1 |
| [Then] beware10 lest thou forget4 the LORD, which brought thee forth52 out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. |
| Thou shalt fear4 the LORD thy God, and serve4 him, and shalt swear11 by his name. |
| Ye shall not go4 after other gods, of the gods of the people which [are] round about you; |
| (For the LORD thy God [is] a jealous God among you) lest the anger of the LORD thy God be kindled4 against thee, and destroy52 thee from off the face of the earth. |
| Ye shall not tempt17 the LORD your God, as ye tempted14 [him] in Massah. |
| Ye shall diligently2 keep4 the commandments of the LORD your God, and his testimonies, and his statutes, which he hath commanded14 thee. |
| And thou shalt do1 [that which is] right and good in the sight of the LORD: that it may be well4 with thee, and that thou mayest go in1 and possess1 the good land which the LORD sware8 unto thy fathers, |
| To cast out2 all thine enemies6 from before thee, as the LORD hath spoken.14 |
| [And] when thy son asketh4 thee in time to come, saying,2 What [mean] the testimonies, and the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD our God hath commanded14 you? |
| Then thou shalt say1 unto thy son, We were Pharaoh's bondmen in Egypt; and the LORD brought us out55 of Egypt with a mighty hand: |
| And the LORD shewed4 signs and wonders, great and sore, upon Egypt, upon Pharaoh, and upon all his household, before our eyes: |
| And he brought us out52 from thence, that he might bring53 us in, to give2 us the land which he sware8 unto our fathers. |
| And the LORD commanded17 us to do2 all these statutes, to fear2 the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive,15 as [it is] at this day. |
| And it shall be our righteousness, if we observe4 to do2 all these commandments before the LORD our God, as he hath commanded14 us. |
